Уголовное дело возникло в 2014 году. По версии следователей, мошенники, прикрываясь брендом TeleTrade, подыскивали желающих сыграть на рынке Forex, полученные от клиентов деньги злоумышленники выводили и похищали. Общую сумму ущерба следствие оценило в 1 млрд руб. В 2019 году стали известно, что господин Чернобай умер в Германии, где лечился от рака. Гроб с телом доставили в Москву и почти сразу кремировали. Расследование уголовного дела продолжается.

Согласно данным «СПАРК-Интерфакс», Владимир Чернобай был совладельцем ООО «Телетрейд Групп». Вторым собственником компании выступало кипрское Teletrade-DJ International Consulting Ltd.
